Bukit
Selambau town
is known for its state constituency by-election polling on 7th, April 2009
which had created
the first
ever record in Malaysian history for having
the most number of candidates (15
altogether, with
13
of them independent
candidates) contesting in a single seat.![]() The opposition party's candidate, PKR's S.Manikumar scored a solid win in the state seat against BN's Datuk S. Ganesan. It also has a record-breaking 15-choice ballot A4 paper size in the electoral history of Kedah. It is located about 26 km from Sungai Petani town and sandwiched by hectares of rubber trees and oil palm estates. The backwater, small town has no banks, no post office and no shops of selling ready-made clothes. The folks in Bukit Selambau have to travel 12 km to the nearest town, Kuala Ketil for their daily business needs. | |
