Wat Kura ( Wat Thammasirivararam)Virtual Tour

Wat KuraLook  ! , It's  not  Ninja Turtles but an army of miniature tortise statues lining up on top of the concrete fence wall of  a temple.

Nothing new, but a Siamese temple in the 100 years old domicile known as "The Temple of Thousand Tortises", which is situated in the rural area of Jeneri,  Sik  in Kedah.

In Ancient Chinsese Mythology, tortise is one of the Celestial Emblems, the symbol of longervity and wisdom. It was referred to as the Zhenwu ( in Chinese Taoism 道教 ) as the emblem and protector god of the North that had divine attributes of unchangeability and rank when used for court girdles dates back to the 3rd century BC.

Along the journey to the temple, visitors will have the opportunity to observe the scenery of the road to Kampung Kura being sandwiched by natural rubber trees.

The temple has a pair of giant tortise statues stood right in front of  the main building and a beautiful gold plated statue of incline Buddha sits calmly inside.
