Alor Setar Tower ( Menara Alor Setar ) is located in the heart of Alor Setar, the capital of Kedah state. Alor Setar is about 58 km from Sungai Petani town. The tower is standing tall at the height of 165.5 m is the most prominent landmark in the city that signifies the rapid development in the state of Kedah. It was built for Telekom Malaysia as a telecommunication tower and officially opened to public by the charismatic Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister, Tun Dr.Mahathir Mohamad in 14th, August 1997. It marks as the 19th tallest tower in the world with an observation deck and platform that allows vistors to enjoy a breathtaking view that stretches from Gunung Jerai to the Strait of Malacca. It is also the second tallest tower in Malaysia, after the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. From the observation deck, visitors will have the opportunity to view the pictureque contours of majestic Gunung Keriang, Kedah river, the whole city of Alor Setar and the vast expanses of paddy fields especially during harvest time. Facilities provided are car parks, toilets , telescopes at observation deck, meeting room , seminar halls, souvenir shops and a revolving Restoran Sri Angkasa for an amazing dining adventure high above the sea-level with pleasing panoramic surroundings of Kedah.
