Tok Pasai Bridge ( Jambatan Tok
Pasai ) is situated in the northern
part of
Kedah, within Kota Setar district. It
connects
Kampung Kubang Rotan to Kuala Kedah over the Kedah
River via Route K143.
The bridge was named after a religious warrior, who was said to have arrived in Kuala Kedah from Indonesia in the year 1844. His vast religious knowledge had won the hearts of the people in Kuala Kedah with respect and admiration. He then fled Sumatra when the Dutch colonial powers wanted to suppress his activities there. Tok Pasai was best remembered for his gentle approach to spreading Islam in the State. Apart from the historic bridge name, the nearby village and canal also renamed as Kampung Tok Pasai and Alor Tok Pasai that still surviving today. A small tomb were erected upon his demise by the grieving villagers in honour for his role in speading Islam in the state. Visitors who are travelling by road to Kuala Kedah Jetty will have to pass over this bridge. It is also a gateway to the Island of Langkawi. At the highest point of this bridge, visitors could catch a glimpse of the pictureque scenery of whole Kuala Kedah village and Kedah River especially during sunset in the vast expanse of sea. | |
