Mystical Mosques in Sungai Petani Virtual Tour  

Sungai Petani in Kedah has quite a number of mystical mosques as majority of its population being Muslims. Mosque is a common building found in most urban and rural areas in the state of Kedah and were built during different period in the Malaysian history.

Mosque is often referred by Muslims  as Masjid with its Arabic's name  "مساجد ‎ ". They serve as a place where Muslims gather together for salat (prayer) (Arabic: صلاة, ṣalāt) as well as a center for information, education, and dispute settlement, where The Imam will leads the prayer.

Stroll around the city to find out the uniqueness of each mosque that has its own architectural style that signifies the elements found throughout all Islamic architecture.  Visitors will be enchanted by the glimmering sights of  the pictureque mosques.

Masjid Sultan Muzaffar Shah

The main popular mosque with modern architechural design in the city is Masjid Sultan Muzaffar Shah situated at Jalan Sungai Layar, named after the first King of Kedah. Others includes Masjid Batu Dua at Jalan Kuala Ketil and Masjid Kariah Gedong at Matang Gedong that can be seen from far when travelling along Sungai Petani's Eastern Bypass.

There are also few of historic mosques built during the British occupation of Malaysia before the Independence Day of Malaya in 1957 such as Masjid Abdul Rahman (1937) at Jalan Pengkalan,that were designed and supervised by British architects and engineers from the Public Works Department and Masjid Al-Mushinin (1954) at Jalan Kuala Ketil are among the oldest in Sungai Petani.
