Damrongrattanaram ( Siam Wat )
is located at about 2.5 km
from Sungai Petani town in
Kampung Raja village.
It is the most famous and oldest Thai Buddhist
Temple, best known by
the locals as "Siam
Wat". The temple is packed
with devotees especially
during Wesak Day which falls on the month of May. In this most
auspicious day of the year, among the common activities carried out by
the Buddhist devotees are such as offering prayers, Buddha
bathing, giving to charity, releasing animals and birds from
captivity, listen to Dharma talks and monk chantings.
For visitors who are fond of collecting amulets, may check out for the available wide range of amulets, Buddha crafted images stones, spiritual items and jade braclettes selling at the temple. Thais believe that certain amulets that were blessed by certain monks are extremely powerful. They offer good luck, protection from evil and physical altercations, protection of body, family members. And there are also amulets that protect against natural disasters and bring money in. A Sauna bath facility within the temple provides visitors the health benefits through natural body cleansing by the excretion of body toxins and other impurities from the blood during the bath.
