Telaga Tok Sheikh ( Tok Sheikh's well )
Virtual Tour

Telaga Tok SheikhTelaga Tok Sheikh ( Tok Sheikh's well ) is situated on the highest peak of Kedah, Gunung Jerai. It is a walking distance at about 100 metres from the Jerai Hill Resort and alternatively accesible by car via a narrow tar road.

The well was named after Tuan Tok Sheikh Abdullah Yaman, an arab who was responsible in converting Maharaja Derba II ( The First King of Kedah ) into a Muslim in 1136 AD and changed  the title of  Maharaja to Sultan with his new name as Sultan Muzaffar Shah. That was the time when Islam begins spreading widely in the state of Kedah.

Sultan Muzaffar Shah has died after he  ruled Kedah for about 43 years  and his highness tomb was erected at Kampung Langgar in Mukim Bujang, Merbok.

The water from the well was used by Tuan Tok Sheikh Abdullah Yaman and his workmen during the constuction of the mosque at  Gunung Jerai's hilltop.
