The
Lunas Buddhist Hermitage
is a
Theravade Buddhist meditation retreat centre situated at Kampung Seberang Sungai,
by the Kulim River in Lunas, Kedah. The centre
has been
the attractions to
Buddhists from all around and as far south as Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bharu
and even Singapore.
The location as being divided and isolated from the nearby town, offers a peaceful and quiet environment for spiritual nourishment and meditators. The Hermitage was built in 1990 and its founder was a prominent local chief monk known as Bhante Suvanno among the community. His popular Dharma teachings with fluent in English as well as Hokkien, not only making the lessons much more interesting and enjoyable, but easy to understand by the students. The octagonal single-storey pagoda building, "The Sima Hall" was officially opened by the Venerable Acara Suvanno Maha Thera (苏哇诺长老) on the 25th Dec 2005. The Hermitage's compound has around 14 single-room houses, which were donated by Buddhist devouts are available for visitors who wants to pursue the practices of insight meditation. Apart from that, the centre is well-equipped with facilities such as car parks, toilets, meditation hall, mosquito netting, area for walking and standing meditations and a dining hall.
