The Sungai Petani Golf Club has a long standing history, where it began with a small attap-roofed timber building on the Sungai Petani open field. The club was established as a meeting place for the European rubber planters who came to live in Central Kedah during the British Occupation of Malaya. In 21st December 1922, the present building was built and officially opened by the Regent of Kedah, Tunku Ibrahim ibni al-Marhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah (1914-1934). Mr. W. Peel was the British Adviser and Che Mat Deli as the District Officer. Today, Sungai Petani Golf Club is one of the most prestigious club in the Central Kedah, hosting members who come from various backgrounds which uniquely reflects the community of Sungai Petani. It is located right in the centre of Sungai Petani town. The golf-course serves as the only green-lung of the town. It is about 50 km from the Penang International Airport, Bayan Lepas. Opposite the Club's main-entrance is the Silver Jubilee Park which is the public recreation park. The closest landmarks to the destination are the SP Plaza and Masjid Mudzaffar Shah. The nine-hole par-35 golf course layout offers an enjoyable round of social golf. In addition to its golf course within the land area of 12 hectares, there are four tennis courts (two clay and two bitumen), and facilities for billiard, a card room, a bar, a swimming pool and a recreation room. Its genuine country club atmosphere is enough to make any visitor feel at home. ![]() | |
