Istana Anak Bukit (Anak Bukit
Palace)
The
Istana Anak Bukit (or Anak Bukit Palace) is the largest palace in
northern peninsular, which is located at the royal town of Anak Bukit,
Kedah. It is the royal palace and an official residence to the present
Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah.
The royal town, Anak Bukit is about 7 km towards north from the heart of Alor Setar City via Lebuhraya Darulaman (Federal Route 1). There is a river stream called Sungai Anak Bukit just behind the royal palace and it flows through Alor Setar connected by Sungai Kedah (Kedah River) to the estuary of Kuala Kedah. The royal palace has a beautiful garden amidst lush greenery and colourful flora and a mini zoo. Visitors are allowed into the royal gardens.
